Cooperative Netball Superleague Awards
18th April 2008

As many netballers are probably going to presentation evenings as their seasons draw to a close, it is no different for the elite. Next Friday when the Malawi test series is over, The Cooperative Netball Superleague Awards evening will be taking place from 7pm at the International Conderence Centre in Birmingham. Ingrid Hagermann the Sky Sports presenter will be hosting the 'black tie' event and each team will have representatives present. Players and staff from every franchise have been asked for their votes regarding which players they think have played the best and deserve some public recognition through gaining an award.

Each franchise will be attending, some with more players than others but the event is a great opportunity for the success of the NSL to be celebrated away from a sports hall setting. Reigning champions Mavericks must have some players in contention but this year but this year it might be that the awards are not given as much exposure as they deserve whilst this new event becomes established.

Player of the year: A player who is considered an outstanding competitor. Top players who perform consistently over long periods of time like Louisa Brownfield or Naomi Siddall (yes, Internetball is biased towards Mavericks!)

Player's Player of the year: Not necesarily an international star but gives her all and supports and encouarges the squad. Somebody like Deb Jones who works her socks off.

Rookie of the year: The best new face who has come onto the scene in style. This would definitely have been Jo Harten last year but this year maybe Serene Guthrie from Team Bath might be the young rookie...

Franchise Community Award: Most significant contribution to the local community.

Coach of the year: The most influential in determining her squad's success. Maggie Jackson?

Umpire of the year: The umpire that has maintained the best possible standards.

Volunteer of the year: Selflessly giving their time, who has been constructive behind the scenes or in the limelight.

Man-Eater of the year: (The one that it sounds like people will not want to win!) The fiercest, most feared opponent. Inspiring respect among players and the kind of person you want on your team and not to play against! Maybe Verona Tomlin from Lightning or Amanda Newton as they are tough competitors to face.

The last part of the awards is the Dream Team where peoplehave voted to pick out of the entire CNSL to who they would like as part of the top team... That will be an interesting one to see.

This should be a very glamerous and fun evening... hopefully the first of many.
