On Saturday 17th May Jo Munnion travelled across to Cambridgeshire to run some sessions which were specifically designed for the players and coaches in the area. After conversations with Helen Stepney (Comberton Club Coach and Cambridgeshire's County Academy Co-ordinator) a pair of sessions were created which allowed players to experience a session by the England Coach and also which would allow the coaches observing to work on some of their technical understanding.
The morning involved higher division players from the local leagues attending and working on a range of movement and ball skills. It was certainly a fun event as the local Cambs players brought a hard working attitude along with a great a sense of humour. The group enjoyed mixing up and working with people from different teams as well as having Jo Munnion challenging them to pass and turn left and right handed.
Whilst the delivery to the players was going on a set of local coaches all observed and completed tasks including chatting to eachother about what the England and NTL coach was up to... the activities stimulated discussion and at the coaches had opportuntities to catch up with Jo during the session and also at the end as the debrief involved quite an in depth chat.
The afternoon saw lower division players come along and although the content was meant to be adapted to meet their slightly lower level of play, this plan was not necessary as the players took every challenge and threw themselves at it! The standard was fantastic and they achieved some major results in the speed and accuracy of release of the ball through the work that they completed.
This was a fun and educational day for all the players and coaches and a special thanks goes to Helen Stepney for arranging this event. Well done everyone for working so hard and making it such fun!
